Fun Stay at Home New Years Parties

Spending Quality Family Time on New Years Eve

A. Ford
You don't have to go out to a party with your kids to make New Years Eve fun and memorable. Mostly kids want your time and attention. It is easier to give your kids undivided attention when you are not distracted by other people or events.

A few ideas to make a great stay at home New Years Eve wherever you live.

  • Having everyone talk about something they are happy or thankful for that occurred over the past year.
  • Having a time of sharing dreams and goals for the New Year. This opens the door for family members to brainstorm for ways to help each member obtain their goals. Even the littlest ones can be helped to share goals like learning to read or ride a bike. Parents can share goals and recruit the children to help like organizing all the family pictures that are in boxes in a closet.
  • Have some sparkling juice to toast with at midnight. Or have the toast earlier for the youngest ones who might not make it until the true New Years.
  • Make special finger food or snacks that each member likes. Get the kids involved in the preparations to help them feel a part.
  • You can make it as formal or as casual as you would like. You could wear your Sunday Best or choose to wear PJ's.
  • You could camp together in one room of the house - like a big sleepover for the whole family.
  • Have a game marathon of all the favorite family games that there isn't often time to play.
  • Maybe break up the evening by watching a family friendly movie. Maybe one you purchased for Christmas.
  • Depending on the size and interests of your family you could invite friends over, but not having friends is okay too.
  • Have some family challenge set up to happen on that night like a video game tournament or a Scrabble challenge. This might encourage practice prior to New Years Eve and build excitement for the actual event.

If you do decide to go out, consider getting home before the actual beginning of the New Year so that your family can spend that special moment together. At parties and events sometimes the people you really want to spend the special moments with are not near you and you miss the moment. At a stay at home New Years Eve Celebration there is no chance of that.
