Don't Want Your Kids to Spend the Summer in Front of the Television? Check Out These COOL Ideas!

Many kids spend their summers in the air conditioning and in front of the television. With the growing number of children becoming obese, it is more important that ever to get your kids moving and having fun this summer! Here are some fun activities that you can do with your kids to make each and every summer a great one!

-Take them to the park often! Sure, your backyard has a swing set, trampoline, and a pool, but sometimes a kid needs a change of scenery! My son will play for hours on end at the local park! It's also good for you to get out of the house as well! Play with them, it's never too late to start playing with your kids!

-Check out your local library! Lots of libraries have really fun summer activities that kids will love! Take advantage of them! No planning for you and loads of fun for your kids! Even if you don't want to get involved with summer library programs, go and let your child pick out a few books each weeks. Keep them interested in reading by making a reading chart and if they read everyday each week, they can get the chance to choose a fun place to go as a family.

-Swim! Swimming is one of the best activities for getting a great workout, and it's FUN! So many cities have water park type pools that kids love! Get out there and have a blast!

-Go for bike rides! If your town doesn't have a bike trail, take your bikes somewhere that does! Kids love to ride their bikes and I'm sure that they would love to get out with you and go somewhere that you can explore together.

-Take a hike! Hiking is a great way to teach your children about the beauty and wonder that is nature. You will find that many state parks have amazing trails that you can hike. Hunt for bugs like caterpillars and butterflies. Teach them the things they can and shouldn't touch. Make it a point to touch the bark on trees and study the beauty of leaves. Walk in creeks(careful, some are slippery) and get dirty! Show them how much fun the world can be!

-Go camping! Pitch a tent in your backyard, or go to a local campground. In the evening, build a campfire and teach your children about the dangers of fire, but have fun by roasting marshmallows and cooking hot dogs!

-Many towns have fun fairs and festivals. Go check them out and have a blast!

-Rain, rain, go away.... On rainy days, you can do the library, but take time to look through family photos and watch old family videos. You cannot replace family memories, so make sure that you all remember them for years to come!

Always remember to use your sunscreen and to drink PLENTY of water this summer! Go out and have fun! Make this summer the best yet!
