Fun Summer Ideas for Grown Ups

Alyssa Russo
Summertime is my favorite time of year. Even though it gets pretty hot, I still enjoy the fun that summer brings. Here are a few ideas of things to do in the summer.

Have a bbq. Invite some of your friends or family over and use the grill to make steaks, ribs, burgers, hotdogs, chicken kabobs, whatever you can think of. Serve things like corn on the cob, pasta salad, potato salad and watermelon. I love the smell of a bbq in the summer.

Go for a swim. Do you know anyone with a pool? Do you own a pool? Invite some people over for a little backyard pool party. Serve little snacks and refreshments. Throw on some music and have fun.

Head to the beach. Is there a beach that is within reasonable traveling distance of you. Go to the beach for the day and enjoy the sun, sand and surf.

Is there lake, stream or river nearby? Do you live near a park? Go for a walk and enjoy looking at nature. Feed the geese or ducks. Throw pebbles in the lake. Go for a swim if swimming is allowed.

Go fishing. Do you like to fish? Would you like to learn how to fish? Fishing can be both fun and relaxing. Find a place to cast and try to catch some fish.

Run through a sprinkler. I know this sounds childish, but bringing out your inner child is a lot of fun. Buy a cheap sprinkler and run through it. Of course it might look better if someone else did it with you, invite others to join you. You can also fill up water guns and have a water gun fight.

Go to an amusement park that has a water park. Is there an amusement park nearby that also has a water park? This is a fun way to cool off in the summer before you head to the amusement rides.

Do you remember all the outdoor games you used to play as a kid? Draw a hopscotch with chalk and see how well you are at it now. Try jumping rope with your friends or having a hula hoop contest. It may look silly with a bunch of adults, but it can be a lot of fun and can bring a lot of laughter.

Go on a picnic. Set out a blanket on some grass at the park or if not, you can even use your own backyard. Find some recipes online for some really good lunch ideas and make them for your picnic.

Go out for some ice cream. Find a new ice cream shop and try their ice cream or go to your favorite ice cream spot and enjoy a cool, refreshing treat.
