Fun Theme Party Ideas

Are you tired of having the same old parties with your friends, the ones where everyone just sits around drinking and talking? It can be fun, sure, but it does get boring after a while. If you want to spice up a boring party, whether it's just for fun or for a special occasion, try making the party a theme party. Theme parties are so much fun!

Here are some fun theme party ideas:

1.) Slumber/Kid's Party: My friends and I just did this recently and it was so much fun. Basically, the idea is that the party is similar to slumber parties you had with your friends back in the day, only now you can add alcohol into the mix! Have everyone come in their cutest, comfiest pjs to start off with. Then come up with some fun kid activities. Play some board games from your past--we played games like Candyland (which we turned into a drinking game) and Hungry Hungry Hippos. Build a fort. Give each other makeovers. Put on temporary tattoos, play with those little sponge pills that turn into creatures when they're put in water, have a squirt gun fight. The possibilities are almost endless, so use your creativity. You can also add some TV shows from your past into the mix. We watched Are You Afraid of the Dark? which was awesome. A lot of old TV shows you can find online, either on Netflix, or for sale on a number of websites. Get Fraggle Rock, Darkwing Duck, or Hey Dude, or whatever show you loved and play some episodes. Man, there's nothing like enjoying being a kid again while inebriated. Ha.

2.) Dance Party: Dancing can be a lot of fun, but going to clubs usually just sucks. There's too much sleaziness and bad music. So why not throw your own dance party with your friends? Figure out who has the most space in their house for a dance floor, and plan to do it there. Have everyone make fun mix CDs or iTunes playlists of music that makes them want to dance. People can dress in their favorite going-out outfits. Start the party off with fun mixed drinks or shots to get everyone into the mood, then turn down the lights, put on some crazy lights if you have them, and put on some of the music. Yay!

3.) Themed Costume Party: Dressing up is so much fun; it shouldn't just be reserved for Halloween. If you and your friends are the type who love dressing up year round, plan a themed costume party. The theme could be something like cult films, and everyone could dress like a character from a cult film they like and then you could watch various cult classics. Or you could do a video game theme. Have everyone dress as video game characters and have a video game tournament. You could do an era costume party, such as the 20s or the 60s, and have appropriate drinks and activities depending on the decade. Or do a Halloween in _______ (whatever month it is), decorate the house all scary-like, and have everyone come dressed up and looking as creepy as they can. Again, there are a lot of possibilities here, and these are just some ideas. You can always come up with your own and idea and run with it!

4.) Miracle Berry Party: This is going to sound weird to those of you who haven't heard of this, but here goes: There is a fruit out there called miracle fruit (otherwise known as miracle berries). They are extraordinary fruits because they have a magical power: they make everything you eat after them (for a limited duration, of course) taste sweet. Now, I have never personally had them (but I definitely plan on it, soon), but it is said that they make sour and bitter things like lemons and grapefruit taste like candy. And of course, sweet things taste deliciously sweeter. You can buy miracle berry tablets online and read more about them here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/accessories/ab3f/ They're only $15, and there are 20 servings per box. So get some, buy some sour and bitter foods, and some sweet foods too if you want, and have a bunch of friends over to enjoy the flavor-tripping effects of the crazy berries!

5.) Summer Party: Now, this party only works when it is definitively NOT summer, and for those who love summer (like me!). But if you're the type who loves summer and really misses it in the dead of winter, you should totally throw a summer themed party. Grab a space heater and humidifier to get your house nice and toasty and humid. Have everyone dress in their summer clothing--t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, flip flops, bathing suits, etc. Drink mojitos or other fresh, summery drinks. Eat ice cream and other summery foods. Watch a movie that takes place in summer, especially one that takes place on the beach or in some summery island town. If you really want to go all out for this party, and you don't mind spending some money, do it at a hotel with an indoor pool and hot tub. That way, you can start off swimming and hot tubbing, then you can go back to the room and turn the temperature up as high as you want, and continue on with your summery activities. Lots of fun.

So...next time you're feeling bored and getting tired of always doing the same thing every weekend, or if you have a birthday coming up and want it to be special, plan a theme party and make it a really good time.
