Friday May 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th: Festevents presents "TGIF, After Work Party and Music Series." I'll tell you from experience that these concerts are one of my favorite parts about living in this area during the summer. These concerts take place in the heart of downtown Norfolk, right on the water. They start at five o' clock on every Friday in May. I work right down the street so I can walk over, but if you don't have that luxury there is plenty of parking downtown. These concerts are free and open to the public, so it's a great event for a family to attend or a group of friends. Alcohol is also served on the premises. Here is a schedule of the concerts for May 2007:
4-May The Connells
11-May The Subdudes
18-May The Dave Matthews Tribute Band (You definitely don't want to miss this one if you're into DMB)
25-May John Brown's Body
So bring your family, your friends, or whoever and have a great time in the sunshine while listening to live music!
Saturday May 12th: Spring Wine Festival: This is another great event put on by Festevents of Norfolk. You must purchase tickets for this event, but it is open to the public. There will of course be a wine sampling, as well as great food, and live music. This event is held at town point park and is a rain or shine occasion. This is one of the newest annual traditions that Norfolk is participating in, as the fall Wine Festival (which is held in October) has been one of the most popular events that the city holds. For ticket prices visit the www.festevents.org website.
Friday May 18th: Norfolk: Beer Festival: This is a great event for adults, and also happen in the Town Point Park area of Norfolk. This event goes on from about 1pm - 7pm. There's lots of food, live music, and of course all kinds of domestic and imported beers. Tickets are twenty dollars if you buy them before the day of the event and twenty five dollars if you buy them at the gate. This event is also put on by Festevents in conjunction with Virginia Arts Festival.
Various dates throughout May: Norfolk Tides Games: This is an event the whole family can certainly enjoy. What's better than a lazy summer day, a baseball game, a big Styrofoam finger, and a greasy hotdog? Not much. The Tides play at Harbor Park in Norfolk during various nights in May (check www.ticketmaster.com for exact dates and times). Ticket prices range anywhere from 4 to about 20 bucks, not bad at all for a night at the ballgame.
These are just a few fun things to do in Norfolk, Virginia during the month of May. If the weather cooperates all of these occasions should end up being huge successes. Make sure that you experience at least one or all of them, trust me you won't be disappointed.
