Desert Botanical Garden: Located at 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ. 480-941-1225. This garden is devoted exclusively to arid land plants of the world. The garden covers more than 145 acres in Papago Park. The paved desert discovery trail leads visitors through the garden. The majority of the garden's plants are succulents, such as cactuses, aloes and century plants. The height of the wildflower blooming is March through May. Summer evening programs are available. Call ahead for event schedules. They are open daily 7am-8pm.
South Mountain Park: Located eight miles south on S. Central Ave. 602-495-0222. This is a must see for everyone! This park contains 16,500 acres of peaks, canyons and strange rock formations as well as native Arizona flora. The environmental education center just inside the parks entrance features displays about the park and offers visitor information. The park is open daily form 5am-5pm.
Phoenix Museum of History: Located at 105 N. 5th St., Phoenix, AZ. 602-253-2734. At this museum visitors can discover how time and place have influenced the development of Phoenix from a dusty desert town to a modern metropolis. Exhibits include telegraphy wagon loading for a cross-country trek and design of a Victorian mansion. The museum is open Tues-Sat. 10am-5pm.
Waterworld Safari: Located at 4243 W. Pinnacle Peak Rd. Phoenix, AZ. 623-581-8446. Grab your swimsuit, sunscreen and towel! This exciting and fun water park features 20 acres of water slides and pools. It's main water ride is called the endless river ride. If your not into water rides you can rent tubes and just float around all day if you like. Food, changing rooms and showers are available. This park is open Mon.-Thurs. 10am-8pm., Weekends. 10am-9pm.
