Fun Water Games for Baby

Sabrina Young
Whether you are cooped up indoors with baby during the wintry months or trying to cool off your baby during the steamy summer, you can enjoy these fun and easy water games.

Summer Sprinklers
Maybe your baby is a little too young for swimming lessons or the beach. You and your baby can still cool off from the summer sun with sprinkler fun. Set up some sprinklers or visit one of many public water parks with interactive water fountains for kids.

If your baby is too little to toddle through the watery fun, then join in and get wet! Pick up your little one and splash with her! She will have a great time watching your expression as you get wet and you both are splashed over and over again! Be sure to have a towel and snacks handy. (PS Added bonus: Baby will be ready for a long nap afterwards!)

Boats Boats Boats
If you are cooped up indoors with the cold winter or cool fall, you can still have a great time with baby and the water. Set up a large, shallow plastic container in the play room. You might even use your baby tub. If you have to set up on the carpet, be sure to line the floor first with large plastic bags and then towels to minimize water splashes. Fill the container with a few inches of water and add toy boats. For extra fun, have a few battery-operated boats in the container and watch your baby squeal with happy laughter.

Fall Fishing Fun
Even if your little one is too small to fish, you can enjoy "fishing" with them indoors or outdoors. During the summer or spring time, when the weather is a little bit warmer, take out the kiddie pool and fill it with fun plastic whales and fish. If your baby will be in the water with the toys or you are playing indoors during the fall or winter, only fill the kiddie pool with a few inches of water. If you have older children playing along, you can add toy fishing poles and have fun "fishing".

DIY Wade Pool
If you are like me, and stuck in an apartment with no backyard or even a place to store a kiddie wade pool, then you might want to make your own fun baby pool that can later double as a storage container. Most large department stores will have wide, shallow plastic containers that work great as a baby's first pool. After summer is done, just use it to store summer toys and beach towels for next summer. If you feel like some indoor water play during the cooler months, you can always bring out the container and the toys for a day, then quickly store everything away. No mess, no hassle.

Snow Cone Silliness
Babies and toddlers really enjoy sensory activities, or activities which allow them to experiment with multiple senses. One fun activity which allows your baby to experience both touch and taste is fun snow cone silliness. Make or purchase snow cones, and place them in a small plastic container or even on your baby's high chair tray. Not only will your baby enjoy touching and feeling the cold ice, your baby will enjoy tasting the different flavors.

I have also used those plastic containers with the lids for a sandbox in the summer. They're great for all kinds of things!
