Tickets to a Sporting Event. If your son's birthday falls during his favorite sports season, treat him to tickets to a big game. This may be a strain on the budget, but splurging on this special gift will surely make his day one to remember. Nothing beats the thrill of attending a live action sports event and your new teenager will definitely count this birthday as one of his very favorites.
Guys' Day Out. Young teenagers rely on the influence and guidance of their same sex role models greatly during these significant years. Arrange a day for your son to spend some bonding time with Dad, a favorite uncle or a friend of the family that is a positive role model. Several hours of fishing, hiking or playing sports combined with good conversation will certainly offer your young man a plethora of good memories and pearls of wisdom to take into this new stage of life.
Update His Style. Thirteen year old boys often begin to notice the opposite sex, and therefore become more interested in their own personal style. While any old tee shirt and pair of jeans may have worked while he was twelve, a brand new look may be in order for the beginning of his teen years. Take him to the mall or the most hip and fashionable clothing store for teen boys in your area. A few new shirts, more stylish jeans and new sneakers may be all it takes to give him some added confidence and self esteem this year.
Give Him a Room Makeover. Just like his wardrobe, your new teenager's bedroom may be in dire need of a fresh new look. If he is still sleeping in a race car bed and has posters of trains on his walls, he may have a difficult time feeling all the glory of becoming a teenager. Allow him to choose a new paint color, posters and a piece of contemporary furniture or two for his room. The simple act of allowing him the freedom to select his own room decor will send the message that you acknowledge and appreciate his entrance into young adulthood. This may be the best gift you could ever give him.
Thirteen of Anything. A great way to celebrate your boy's thirteenth birthday is to gift him with thirteen of his favorite things. Wrap thirteen video games, Cd's or DVDs in festive wrapping paper. Serve him thirteen silver dollar pancakes for breakfast. Fill his bedroom with thirteen helium balloons to greet him on the morning of his special day. Use your imagination to find as many ways as you can to surprise him with the special number this birthday.
