Fun Ways and Places for Tallahassee Women Can Get in Shape

Gyrate, Shake and Pump it Up in Tallahassee

JA Huber
Tallahassee women looking to get in shape have many exercise options within Florida's Capital. Ditch the traditional gym and have fun while getting fit.

Shimmy & Shake
Gyrate hips, shimmy shoulders and get in shape with In Step Studio's Middle Eastern Dance classes. Also known as belly dance, beginning classes teach body control and basic Middle Eastern dance moves. It's a fun way to get fit.

While not required, pick up a hip scarf to really get into the belly dancing culture. Zills are recommended. These are finger cymbals played while dancing, which takes some coordination. In Step Studio's belly dance instructors sell hip scarves and zills if you don't have your own.

In Step Studio offers Middle Eastern Dance classes in three locations within Tallahassee: Onsite at In Step Studio, at the YMCA - North Monroe Branch and the Tallahassee YMCA - Southwood Branch.

Too Sexy for the Catwalk
Oprah's featured exotic pole dancing on her television show and Barbara Walters gave it a try on "The View." Tallahassee women can now find their inner exotic pole dancer at Art of the Catwalk. There's a difference between looking sexy and feeling sexy. Art of the Catwalk helps women feel sexy while getting in shape with classes such as Pole Fitness and Strip Tease Aerobics.

Exotic dance fitness classes are available (your favorite sexy high heels are recommended) without a dance pole. Shadow dance and lap dance classes are available, too. Four levels of pole dancing are taught, each in four weeks sessions. Level 1 is called "Heartbreaker" and Level 4 is called "Le Beau Monde" (Fashionable Elite). Art of the Catwalk welcomes women of all shapes, sizes and ages. Class sizes are limited to 14 women.

Drop and Give Me 20!
Do you have the determination to get through booth camp? Boot Camps to Go certainly hopes so. In a four-week session, participants engage in cardio and weight training, usually in an outdoor setting. They run over dirt paths, lift kettlebells and push their personal limits to build strength, trim down and gain confidence about themselves. A trainer and boot camp participants encourage each other along the road to fitness. This program is open to women and men.

Women's World offers women a comfortable and clean setting to pump iron and sweat pounds away. The facility offers ample cardio equipment, circuit weight training and free weights. Various fitness classes are offered throughout the day along with spinning classes. There is also a child care center onsite.
