Fun Ways to Scare Trick or Treaters

Skyler Raine
Do you ever feel that the kids that come to your door at Halloween are only in it for the candy? Why not give them something to be scared of and give them a little trick of your own when they come knocking! These tricks are not intended to scare children to death but are a way to join in the spirit of Halloween and make sure they have a night to remember!

One way to get the neighborhood kids talking is to create a scary yard a few days before Halloween. The scarier the yard the more likely they are to come knocking at your door. You can do this by decorating your yard with scary ghosts, tombstones and spider webs! This will scare the kids before they even get to the front door! When they are at your front door why not dress up for the occasion? Remember that there may be smaller children trick or treating so try to appeal to all ages with a witches outfit or a ghost rather than a saw wielding mass murderer! You can choose to open the door to them with your outfit on or you can jump out to give them a bit of a scare.

Another great way to spook your trick or treaters is to have scary music on the porch or coming from the window. Ghoulish howls and screams will set the scene before you even open the door and will put the kids on edge. You can buy this music from retail stores, find it on the internet or you can create your own! Nothing says scary like the Thriller song!

If you are the type of person who really enjoys Halloween then you could try getting into character and spooking your trick or treaters before they even make it to the front door. Simply dress up as a ghoul or mummy and lay in wait on the front yard. If you stay still for long enough then the kids will think that you aren't real. Just as they walk past, jump up and give them a scare! Again try to limit this to older children rather than little ones. Why not try to really scare them and get your whole family involved. There's nothing quite scarier than being chased down the street by a family of mummies or ghouls! Mix it up a bit and stand like statues, lay in comas or hide behind trees and jump out at the last minute!

One sure fire way to petrify your trick or treaters is to give away something other than candy such as eye balls or severed fingers. The parents will be grateful for a change to candy and the kids will be totally spooked by the scary treats you have given them!

So now you know how to give back to your trick or treaters. Everyone will know you as the house you HAVE to visit when trick or treating and you will be twice as popular next year!
