Gather 40 index cards. Out of the 40 cards write the other half words that rhyme. When finish, draw a pictures on the entire index card with the meaning of the word. Color the pictures to bring some attraction to your cards. Try to laminate your cards, so they would last long. Draw two different pictures on the index cards that would rhyme. Example, draw a cat and a hat. Then write the name of each at the bottom of each index card. Do you notice that cat and hats rhyme? Proceed to do the rest with different pictures that will rhyme. Once you finish, you could color the pictures. Then you are ready to play a game of rhyming words.
This game is a rhyming picture game. Pass out cards to children. Have children stand in two lines. Call one child at a time. When you call the first child, have him or she tell you what is on the picture. Have them stand in another line when finish telling you what is on the picture. When you call the next child have them say the world aloud. If the first child has the rhyming word, have him or she say the word a loud. Then have both children say both words again. Keep doing this until you have the last card.
Another game that children could play would be gathering an empty box. Inside the box empty all 40 cards. Have each child come up and pull only one card that is inside the box. Ask the child what the card is. If they don't know, help them out. Then have the child stand in a line. Have another child pull another card out of the box. Ask them what the card is. Again if they don't know, help them out. Then ask the first child that pulls the first card if his card rhymes. If the card is not a rhyming word have the second child stand in line. Then call the next child and do the same. Once a child gets a rhyming card, have one of them call it out. Then have both children sit down. You will do this until there are no cards left inside the box.
These games will help children develop their communication skills, observant skills, word and object recognition. It also helps being a team player
