Fun at Work - How Employers Succeed

Learn How to Make Any Workplace Fun

Mike Burnside
If you own a business or are in charge of running one, making it a fun workplace is going to take some work. Most people are not used to coming to work to have fun so you will have to set the example for them. Any workplace can be fun, but the fun needs to come from those at the top. The first few times you do something fun you may get stares, but the intention is to get people to bring out their personalities at work so that they are happier. Happier workers are much more productive. Here are five tips to make your office a more fun workplace for your staff.

1. Mingling is a Must for Fun Work
Your office needs to be designed for employees to mingle. Having an open air, non-cubicle environment will allow employees to blend and mesh their personalities. Add into the environment the opportunities for employees to gather for non-office functions, such as birthday parties or celebrations.

2. Make the Office Work More Entertaining
Yes, business is serious sometimes, but there is not any reason why it cannot be entertaining as well. Keep the staff meetings easy going whenever possible. Spending eight to ten hours in the same office can make things dull, look to lighten the atmosphere by giving employees the opportunity to laugh.

3. Fun Starts with Being Spontaneous
If you are the boss and you have to either fabricate or force the fun, employees will know it and you will fail. Spontaneity is doing something that your employees would not expect you to do. Bring in a clown to do balloon animals one day, or announce that tomorrow is bring your pet to work day.

4. Having Fun at the Office Needs to Be Creative
Think outside the box and find ways that will engage your employees to participate together. A band playing "classic rock" at a lunchtime gathering is only a couple of hundred dollars and can get the office attitude uplifted quickly. Maybe an inexpensive piƱata that is filled with cheap candy will get everybody involved.

5. Be Persistent with Fun at the Office
At first, you may have some employees who are not open to the fun you are trying to get going at the office. Stick with it and your employees will begin to venture out of their shells and participate. Remember, fun starts at the top and if you keep it up, so will your employees.
