Guess My Resolution. The more people for this game, the better. Everyone will receive 5 slips of paper. On each slip, the player writes down one of their own personal New Year's resolutions and all of these slips of paper are put into a hat or basket. Someone pulls the slips out one at a time and reads the resolutions out loud. Everyone writes on their own sheet of paper who they think made that particular resolution. The person who guesses the most correctly wins. What they win is up to the host. It could simply be the satisfaction of being right, or a nice bottle of bubbly to toast the New Year.
Guess the Month. For this game, you will have to do a little bit of research. Look up important or humorous events that occurred during this year. Make a list of these stories and have your guests guess in which month the event occurred. Try to mix up the really easy with the slightly difficult. You can play this game two ways. You can read the events out loud and have your gusts write down the answers on their own sheets of paper, or you can print out lists with the events written on them and they can work on it throughout the evening. Whoever gets the most correct answers wins.
New Year's Win Lose or Draw. This is the same good ole' Win Lose or Draw, but with a New Year's twist. Do your research and pick out events that happened this year or the titles of books and movies that came out during year and make your own Win Lose or Draw cards. Divide your guests into two teams and let the fun begin. You can use the same idea for New Year's charades.
Guess Which Guest. For this game, take a sheet of paper and write down a factual statement that happened during the year to each of your party guests, but leave out their name. For example: " _____________ gave birth to a boy in June." Or "______________ started a new job in March." Hand out the lists to your guests and give them 15 minutes to find the answers. The person with the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time wins.
Who Wins a Prize? This game will almost guarantee that none of your guests will walk away empty handed. Throughout the night, randomly call out questions such as "Who is the oldest person here?" or "Who took the longest to graduate college?" A prize is given to the person who best fits the answer to the question. The prizes do not have to be big or expensive. A box of cookies, a book of stamps, or a bottle of sparkling cider will do.
Bring back your childhood. There is nothing wrong with pulling out Twister, Operation, Connect Four, Clue, or any other game that will bring you and your guests back to childhood. You could set up several stations of these classic games and relive the fond memories of the first time you played them as you ring in the New Year.
New Year's parties are all about fun and building and remembering good memories while saying goodbye to the old year. Hopefully your party will bring in the New Year with laughter and happiness.
