In unrelated animal news, The Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) is asking citizens to sign an online petition to end "cruel and deadly" wild horse roundups.

"For too long, the Bureau of Land Management has 'managed' wild horse and burro populations by unjustifiably - and often inhumanely - removing them from their environment by the thousands," states a press release. "In October 2009, the Department of the Interior (DOI) released a comprehensive five-year plan to potentially transform the BLM's wild horse and burro program."

HSUS says the BLM must cease the roundups immediately and seriously reconsider its current policies and procedures, choosing humane, fiscally responsible methods such as fertility control.
