Funding Educational Ideas Through Pepsi's "Refresh Everything" Project

A few weeks ago, I reported on a program run by Pepsi called "Refresh Everything" (check it out here). The program is one whereby any individual has an opportunity to present an idea that's geared towards making the world a better place in any of several categories. The ideas are voted on by the public for worthiness and Pepsi funds the project in increments that stretch from as little as $5000 to as much as $250K.

One of the realms in which Pepsi funds ideas is within the area of education. To date, Pepsi has awarded $1,670,000 in grants to ideas and projects related to the field of education. For anyone involved in education who would like to gain funds for a project or idea that will help out the school they teach in, or more importantly the kids they teach, the "Refresh Everything" project is surely an outlet to give it a try.

A $250,000 Grant

To rebuild our grade school that was destroyed in March 2009

Benld Elementary School, located about an hour northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, had to be condemned in March of 2009 when sudden effects from mines in the area destroyed much of the school. A quarter of a million dollar grant was paid by the "Refresh Everything" project to help rebuild the school.

$50,000 Grants

Provide financial literacy seminars for high school and college students

This idea tackles an issue that I've always thought should be taught in schools: financial literacy. The program provides monthly seminars and activities to help young people learn how to manage their finances.

Help our students learn a foreign language in at afterschool program

Learning another language gives students an advantage in today's "global village." This idea to create afterschool programs for children to learn another language was voted in the top ten in April 2010 and earned the $50K prize.

$25,000 Grants

Employ American Heroes

This $25,000 grant was awarded for a program to provide training for veterans so as to help them successfully enter the workplace.

$500 scholarship for every graduating senior

Nowadays going to college is as expensive as ever. This funded idea grants $500 scholarships to every high school senior in Nodaway Valley, Iowa, who pursues any sort of post high school educational program.

$5000 Grants

Fill the shelves in the elementary school with library books

This grant was provided to purchase more than 300 new high-interest, low readability books so that more kids can get turned on to reading.

Clothe the N.A.K.E.D. prom date

This unique and winning idea provides monies for young men with free tuxedos for their high school proms.

As you can see, the ideas submitted and won through the Pepsi "Refresh Everything" project are varied and helpful. For any educator who wants to do something for their school but doesn't know how to go about getting it funded, why not submit the idea to Pepsi. You never know!
