Funding the War in Iraq and Afghanistan Passed

Congress Vote to Provide New Funding

ROCCO
Congress voted yesterday to continue to fund the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and continue to support the effort. The bill H.R.2006, showed absolutely no time-line for the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. With the passing of the bill many have indicated a clear defeat for the Democrats with most of the Democratic candidates running for presidency issuing statementments condemning the bill.

Senator Obana:

Voted against the bill however in his statement he said; " We must fund our troops. But we owe them something more. A clear, prudent plan to relieve them of the burden of policing someone else's civil war."

Senator Clinton:

Voted against the bill and said' "Tonight I voted against the bill because it fails to compel the President to give our troops a new stragegy in Iraq."

Senator Biden:

Voted in favor of the bill and said: "In vetoing the bill, the President denied our troops the funding they need, and the American people the plan they want."

John Edwards -Former Senator and Vice Presidential Candidate:

John Edwards issued a statement which said; "Washington failed America today when Congress surrendered to the President's demand for another blank check that prolongs the war in Iraq. it is time for this war to end."

Congressman Kucinich:

Voted against the bill and stated; "Just as the Democrats could have prevented the invasion of Iraq in 2003, when Senators Edwards, Clinton, Biden and Dodd supported it, and just as the Democrats could have ended the occupation of Iraq at any point by ending the funding, ...... and continues, the Democratic Party has to choose between standing for peace or continuing to support war and occupation."

Governor Richardson:

"The best way to support our troops is to get them out of Iraq and this bill will not move us any closer to that."

Senator Dodd:

Voted against the bill and said; "I am disappointed that there is no firm deadline in this version of the bill, because I believe that's the only way to responsibly bring this war to an end."

Are the Democratic frontrunners digging their own electoral graves?
