Fundraiser by Local Couple Pays Off for the Fall River Family Center

Local Couple Gives Back to the Community

David Leavitt
Fall River, Mass. - Bachelor and Bachelorette parties can easily cost hundreds of dollars for just a few hours of entertainment. When a local couple decided they would rather help the community in a way that would have an impact on people's lives rather than spend money on themselves, the results were bigger than they could have possibly expected.

Local couple Caleb Fiero and Gabrielle Scott decided to host a fundraiser at Shakers in Fall River, Mass., for the Fall River Family Center this past Saturday April 24th. Caleb Fiero and Gabrielle Scott invited all of their friends through Facebook to bring clothes, food, and etc. for the benefit of the Fall River Family Center.

In addition to the items that were donated, an auction was held for a painting of Jedi Master Yoda of Star Wars fame that was produced on the spot by Caleb Fiero, who is a local artist. Star Wars fans who are reading this should check out Caleb Fiero's "Improved Star Wars Prequels" at nojarjar.blogspot.com.

According to a Facebook status update by Caleb Fiero, within a few short hours Caleb and Gabrielle's friends had "helped to raise over $300.00 in raffle money and donated two full car loads of important living essentials for the Fall River Family Center."

Individuals who wish to give back to their own local communities can follow the example that Caleb Fiero and Gabrielle Scott have set. Simply contact a local charity in your neighborhood and ask how you can help give your time to set up a fundraiser.

Don't want to run a fundraiser? Simply donate a dollar (or more) to a local charity. Many people might feel that they can't donate to others when they are struggling to get by themselves. All it takes is one penny. If a million readers of this article donated just one penny each, then a total of $10,000 would be raised to help families in need. Just think of all the children you would be helping by donating a penny.

Here's the message that was originally posted by Caleb Fiero on Facebook:

"You have probably been to a bachelor and/or a bachelorette party, or at least seen one on TV. This is not that kind of party. Sorry, no strippers. Well, if you are a stripper and you want to come that's OK, but don't take off your clothes. Instead of a big fancy wedding, or crazy bachelor party we are inviting all our friends to help us help people in Fall River, and celebrate our marriage!

Come share some serious love! Bring donations of toys, shampoo, soap, razors, diapers, clothes, or canned food! The list could go on forever, bring stuff that people need to use every day. All the donations will go to the Fall River Family Center, on Cherry Street.

We feel that the best way to share our love with the world is to literally share our love with the world! I will be painting, and the finished painting will be raffled off to raise some actual cash for the Fall River Family Center!"
