Belly Dancing
Belly Dancing may have descended from the Middle East, but it is now a popular dance in America. Increasing popular for weight loss and toning, this specific dance highly targets the stomach area. Expect to strengthen and define muscles due to the isometric movements that focus on the hips, abdomen, rib cage and arms. This style dance also requires you to maintain a strong upright position, improving posture and inadvertently working the glutes.
Salsa Dancing
The upbeat moves will keep your heart racing and the calories burning. The dance requires many hip and arm movements which guarantees toning in these areas. Even if you've never danced salsa before, the intricate steps and turn will improve your coordination with practice. No partner is necessary as moves can performed individually.
Pole Dancing
Pole dancing is the newest form of exercise dancing that has shown great benefits in weight loss, toning , and building strength. Generally taught in small size classes, each individual is paired with their own pole. Basic moves are taught dancing around the pole, but the more advanced steps involve more athletic moves. This includes climbs and spins that require a great deal of upper body strength.
Chair / Lap Dancing
Similar to the seductive moves involved in pole dancing, chair or often called lap dancing is a new form of exercise dance. No pole required, instead a chair is used as a prop and as an exercise tool. Techniques involve sliding and jumping so there is plenty of work involved with toning the legs. Pre-dancing stretches improves flexibility and balance and the intense dance moves make for a great cardiovascular workout.
