Funky Junque Chronicles #2 Pick O' the Week : Nod to Mod Vintage

Chic Retro Clothing for Any Diva or Fashionista on a Budget!

Ira Mency
I'm always on the quest for all things vintage, and as you know, I believe buying vintage is a way of recycling, and keeping things out the landfill. High quality finds at affordable prices is the jest of my funky junque series. With that said, I am happy to report this week's pick is tailored at the fashionista.

NOD TO MOD VINTAGE

I am pleased to announce I am officially "in love" with an adorable shop on Etsy called NOD to MOD Vintage. This shop, based out of Denver, offers affordable HIGH QUALITY attractive retro and vintage clothing . Attractive and affordable are the key words. You won't find the ugly and hideous stuff of yesteryear here, only the coolest and the most chic. Most items look like something of Vogue magazine but are affordable---items to fit any budget.

HISTORY

Zacharie Boyle is the beauty and brains of Nod to Mod Vintage. While away in Paris at school, her main focus was watching the fashion trends from a park bench or a cafe. Noticing styles, accesssories, and how it all tied together...she would soon find herself rummaging thru consigment shops and thirft stores to assemble her own at a fraction of the cost.

Later in Austrailia, Boye was finding the best vintage in the "costume sections" of the thirft stores. Many items would be tailored to her own speficiations by perhaps shortening a dress, adding the perfect belt, heels, accessories, and voila.....her style of NOD TO MOD VINTAGE was born.

Boyle herself looks like a Paris model . Receiving many compliments and knowing how to look exquisite in any dress, (see for yourself in my photos) she knew she was onto something. Friends and family encouraged her to get into fashion, and start selling her vintage finds online.

Soon Boyle would be doing just that, Nod to Mod Vintage officially launching in 2006 with the help of her family. The Etsy store opened in October 2008 and has been going strong ever since. After all, they say you are good at what you love. There's no mistaking it, she definately is.

WHY YOU SHOULD SHOP HERE

AFFORDABILITY: Quality items are available in a variety of prices to fit any budget, on average $25-$35 will score you a hip new outfit. More expensive selections definately worth it. DO VISIT the SALES section, where one can pick up a high quality outfit online for less than the cost of a bogus imitation that you may find at your local supermart.

DETAILED FIT: For those of you who worry about buying clothes online (about the fit) no worries here either. Boyle has you covered with measurements, and photographs taken at every angle so you can see how the garment will fit. The tag is indicated, the material, and the best part? A size comparision "size M fits like a L" area that is just great. (We all have those baggy sweaters that say M but feel like an XL so this is just another great feature of the site. )

SELECTION: The shop is easily catergorized and offers cool retro gear from dresses, shirts, skirts, rompers, coats, shorts, scarves, and bags! New stock is added frequently!

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: They have 100% positive feedback and give superior customer service, according to their many customers.

FAMILY BIZ: Boyle explains that her mother is the wonderful photographer and stylist, and with a family like this, it's no wonder things are going so well. They have opened another store, BOYLERPF, which sells antique and vintage jewelry, dating from 1840-1940 including Victorian, Nouveau and Deco.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM THIS FASHIONISTA

Boyle keeps busy watching fashion trends and reporting on her favorite stars on her way cool blogspot which is a fun read for everyone. You can see what hollywood is wearing and what her favorite styles are. Boyle has already been featured by other bloggers, and cross promotes her store wiith tools such as Flickr -- a way cool photo stream of her latest fashions.

Boyle admidts the hunt for the perfect vintage keeps her motivated. She states, "I live and breathe fashion.... the love of spreading fantastic generations of fashion is the best thing in the world!"

Boyle's store motto includes this blurb:

"Remember that Vintage is one of a kind where you can step apart from the crowd, and be the retro edgy fiend you are! Rock the trend!"

I am happy to report that Boyle is doing just that, rocking the trend--the NOD TO MOD VINTAGE TREND! Thanks to the Boyle family for keeping it real, keeping it green, and keeping it ever-so-vintage. KUDOS TO YOU NOD TO MOD VINTAGE, you are my pick of the week!
