First is Peg Bundy. She is the hyper-spending and over-sexed wife on "Married...with Children." She totally eschews any housework, cooking, parenting and self-control. She shops until Al drops without apology. Peggy Bundy is funny because she makes no pretention about doing the right thing. She simply wants to do what she wants. When her next door neighbor is depressed because she is has no husband Peg says "She needs a date more than I do." She has a walk that is more of a prance because she wears "Mules." And, she always wears the tightest everything and has loud, red hair. "Married with Children" is typically broadcast on TBS.
My personal favorite as far as a funny mom is Debra Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond." You can find this program on many channels but most often it is broadcast on Fox. Debra has to deal with the self-centeredness of her husband Ray and his butinski mother who is always coming over from across the street uninvited and always criticizes Debra from her cooking to her cleaning. What is really funny is her reaction to these types of issues when she gets fed up. She will routinely call Ray an "idiot." Further she will even try to get physical with Marie even going after her with a pan. Ray has to restrain her and it is funny.
The funniest episode is when Debra has supposed PMS and Ray tries to get her to take a pill for the symptoms. She of course gets very angry.
While a cartoon, Marge Simpson is very humorous. Once again mostly on Fox, she has put up with the shenanigans of husband Homer and son Bart.
Marge approaches life in such a simplistic way that when she does get aroused it is funny.
Jill Taylor played by Patricia Richardson is in reruns on TBS on "Home Improvements." However, the sitcom is very available and is often seen on TBS. Jill must deal with Tim Allen who is an air-headed television host for a home improvement show. She is down to the earth in a show full of loonies.
Finally, another current cartoon series character gets my nod for humorous mom. Peggy Hill on "King of the Hill" deals with underachiever on Bobby and propane salesman Hank who is not extremely open-minded. She likes to try things such as teaching Spanish, buying a book store and entering into a partnership. Peggy is funny but she is also kind and she is always supportive of her family.
All the moms I've mentioned are funny and there are many funny television moms past and present. One thing however, even a mom like Peg Bundy has the capability of shining through with the special traits of an American Mother.
