We were working on the house. We came upon a box of items from our previous house which had many items from my husband's friends that used to rent a room from his last house and from my husband's first marriage. My husband was married and divorced prior to our meeting. My charming husband always stated the reason his marriage didn't work out was because he was meant to meet me! On this beautiful Saturday morning in South Florida, I sort of added to the story and made up my own fairy tale, when sharing this news with my five year twin boys. Never thinking it would be anything more then entertainment for my husband!
How it all cam about was when we were cleaning our living room and going through old boxes and draws and old music albums. My twin boys were 5 years old, they were helping out the best they could. We came upon a music album that was neither mine nor my husbands, so I sarcastically said to my husband, (in front of the twins), "well maybe, it was little Miss Muffet's album"! My twins said, Who is little Miss Muffet?
So I shared my version of my husbands short lived prior marriage with my twin boys!
The first thing they said, Gross, Daddy was married before! Why would he want to married to anyone but you!
I just smiled and said, I know! And I started to tell my silly made up story, of my husbands; before me!, "marriage"!
So, before me, "Daddy was married to little Miss Muffet". She sat on her tuffet and ate lots of curds and whey and got really mean to daddy which also made her fat and ugly. So Daddy left her, and then one day he met a beautiful fairy princess. He immediately fell in love with her, ask her to marry him and they had two beautiful twin boys! They smiled and said you are the fairy princess, aren't you mommy? I of course said yes!
A couple weeks later my boys started kindergarten. The teacher asked the class if anyone ever heard of little Miss Muffet, because today in story time hour they were going to learn about her!
Well, My son raises his hand and says: I know who little Miss Muffet is, a wait until you guys hear this; tone of voice! My Dad was married to her! She sat on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey and; she was really mean to my Dad!; So he left her, to go find my mom, who is a beautiful Fairy Princess!
After hearing my son repeat my story to his entire class, the teacher and her classroom assistant were laughing so hard, it was very difficult to continue the class discussions. Of course they explained to my son that his mom was probably teasing when she told him that story! He of course said, I have heard people call my mom princess and she is beautiful, so how do you explain that?
Then I arrived to pick up my boys from school, the teacher was anxiously waiting for me to fill me in on her day. I never imagined I was in trouble, I thoguht what did those silly boys of mine do now!
My son was standing there staring at me. He was very upset with me, his arms were folded up on his chest and a pout on his face. I smiled and told him I was so sorry, and I confessed that Daddy's ex-wife wasn't really Miss Muffet, but I am really a Fairy princess and Daddy was my prince! He smiled and said I knew that part was right, I told my teacher! So he looks at me and says maybe little Miss Muffet has a twin, like me and my brother!
There after, all of my friends and work associates called me princess! To this day my sons and husband of 22 years treat me like a princess!
