Funniest News Story of 2006: Police Chief Loses Job Over 300 Lb. Wife's Nude Pictures

This Story Has it All: Irony, Drug Busts, "Nekkid Pictures" and More Irony in Snyder, OK

Back in September of 2006, the quiet church-going town of Snyder, Ok. just west of Lawton, was rocked by news that the Chief of Police's wife in the town of 1,500 had posed for nude pictures on a plus-sized pornographic website. After an uproar, Chief of Police Tod Ozmun, Mayor Dale Moore, and City Councilman Clifford Barnard all resigned, the latter two in protest of what they thought was unfair treatment to the Chief. Doris Ozmun, the Chief's wife, couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, citing her First Amendment rights and calling the whole thing a "witch hunt". Tod Ozmun said in news reports of his 6'3" 300 pound wife "if there is somebody who thinks they can control her, have at it. I've tried for 11 years and haven't been able to". "This has turned into a media circus. This is absolutely ridiculous".

The "honorable" Mayor said Ozmun has made many drug arrests and keeps the town safe. Now for the irony: Doris Ozmun, wife of Tod Ozmun, the Chief of Police, was just paroled in March 2005, for drug related crimes. In November of 2000, Doris Ozmun was convicted of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary. She was dating Tod Ozmun at the time and working as an "undercover agent" for the Jefferson County Narcotics Enforcement Team, where her future husband Tod was Director. They married while Doris was incarcerated.

What I would like to know is, how did a guy whose wife did time for drugs while they were dating got the job as Chief of Police in the first place? Snyder, Ok. must be the redneck capitol of the World. I just find the irony hilarious that the Police Chief was married to a drug offender who just got paroled a little over a year before and gets forced out as Chief, not because of that but because of "nekkid pictures". I mean, the pictures, which I haven't seen, and hopefully am never forced to see at gunpoint because that's the only way I ever will, are bad enough, but either the city of Snyder does a very poor job of conducting background checks or they didn't think it was a big deal. "This has mortified my family" Doris Ozmun said of the uproar. You mean they weren't mortified by her drug convictions, or the fact that at 6'3" and 300 pounds she is posing for nude pictures for the whole world to see? Not that if she was slimmer it would be any better, but my gosh, forget the Chief, at her size, she could play Guard FOR the Chiefs, the Kansas City Chiefs.

    Tod & Doris Ozmun have become very close friends of mine and I am happily married so no need to comment on the close friends please, not only are the my tenants as well, but Doris is one of my maintenance technicians. They are very sweet, fun, loving and hillarious to be around couple, they deserve more credit than you people give them credit for just because you read an article online. Tod is right, Doris is a big lady, and if you think you can go toe to toe with her..... come on and try it, I promise you you will run away crying. and that's all I have to say about this story, you shouldn't judge someone because you read an article online!!! Thank You.

    Wow..I was just doing a search on my old friend Tod Ozmun and this is what I find! I haven't seen him or talked to him since right after he married Doris...crazy!

    ok well he did marry her in prison and says he can't control her so I think they do need a police chief who has more common sense...but it is Snyder, OK so who cares lol
