Funny Farm Report - Volume 16

Well, I am very late writing this article as it has been a very busy week on the farm. It seems that the horses need more care than I possibly have time for. Visits from the farrier and trips to buy feed, wormer medication, and spring vacinnations are a job all on their own. Plus when you add in the feeding, bathes, trims, clippings, cleaning and my daughter's riding lessons, you end up with someone running late and it happens to be me this time.

My husband bought out a horse farm last week and ended up with 2 horses that have only been used for pasture pets, which do not make them easy to load or handle. The horses were mother and daughter and had not been handled much. Along with the horses, we also bought fencing, tack, saddles, and some other items which had to be brought home, cleaned up and put away. The horses had to be sold as we did not need them, but finding a home for two that we didn't want to seperate and needed some work would be a challenge I was afraid. However, due to a friend who knew someone who wanted horses and was willing to train one, we were able to place them into a nice home yesterday. They seemed extremely happy once they were in their new home. I will be checking on them quite often.

I have some rants and raves to make today and although they do not have to do with the farm, I still feel the need to talk about them. First of all, I just heard of an accident this weekend that killed a member of a wedding party and it seems that both drivers in the accident were at fault. The driver of the escort vehicle that was hauling the wedding party failed to stop at a stop sign and the driver of the other vehicle , whom I am sure was an illegal immigrant, did not have a license. There are laws that people need to learn that they have to follow!

Secondly, I just heard that a second grade student is missing and was last seen at his school. He was excited about a science fair and his stepmother had taken him to school so that she could see the project and she entered the school with him, but he never returned from school that day. Are our schools really not safe havens from monsters who want to hurt them? We keep God out but we can't keep monsters out!

My final rant is towards people who do not know how to drive on country roads. Is it impossible to drive on country roads? My piece of advice is to stay on your side of the road and use some common sense.. My daughter and I were almost in an accident last Thursday as we came over top of a hill in the road and there was a car stopped just over the hilltop in the middle of the road. I watched an accident yesterday when two trucks clipped mirrors as they were both hugging the center of the road and could not pass without hitting one another. UGH!!

I also have a couple of raves. First of all, let me say "CONGRATULATIONS" to Michael Rutherford on graduating from Brown County High School on Saturday. His parents had a nice graduation party for him on Saturday and I believe that he is going to make a great vet when he finishes college. Secondly, I want to say that it was great to see Joe Morano at the party too. He is my oldest daughters' biological dad and it was nice to be able to sit and talk to him without any tension between us. He is an Army helicopter pilot and has served overseas during war time on three different tours and I would like to say "THANK YOU" for your service to our country! We are proud of what you do.

Well, I am looking forward to the summer months here on the farm and I hope that you will all forgive me for not sharing a lot of farm news this week but I believe that there were other things that needed to be discussed this week.
