After church I was picking up songbooks to put away when this girl about 10 years old said she would help me. She then proceeded with all her youthful zeal and speed to make larger stacks of all the counted stacks of books I had made. As I was considering how to channel her energies into helping me her mom directed her to another activity.

Years ago my six-year-old nephew and I were walking along a gravel road in northern Minnesota. As we went the grassy roadside became a water filled ditch about 2 feet deep. As most boys do he walked along very close to the edge kicking in dirt and stones. I grabbed his hand so he would not fall in and I would not have to explain anything. After about ten steps he tried to jump into the ditch. Guess he was just testing his safety net.

My little 6 year old niece wanted to sit on my lap and play like we where driving around the country. This went on for a few minutes then she said she would like to drive, so I let her. Less than a minute late she said she had been driving so now she was in charge of what we were doing. So I got up and left her in charge of the imaginary car.

At a campout this 7year boy and his older brother walked up to me with this huge super soaker water gun. As he stood about a foot away he energetically pointed out how much water it could carry and the different setting he could make. He then said how he was going to soak me, after he filled his squirt gun, at the first chance he got and he was a good shot too. So I showed him that all I had was this little squirt gun that fit in my pocket. He laughed and said that it was not very big and his gun could shoot a whole lot farther. Then I said there was one big difference between his squirt gun and mine. He asked what was that. As I pointed it at him I said with a smile on my face, "mine is loaded." Unfortunately for him that big squirt gun made it hard for him to turn and run. I was zealously hunted like the roadrunner after that.

In front of the bookstore the little boys asked their mom about this place and some books they wanted. She said to them, "no this is not the borrowing place this is the buy place."
