Funny Math Story About Division

Will T.
"Hey Michelle, look what I've got!" It was early morning recess and my friend Jalissa was running towards me. She had her bag in one hand, but the other was balled up in a fist. When she finally caught up with me, Jalissa paused to catch her breath and then opened her hand to reveal two jellybeans, one blue and one pink.

"They're you're favorite,' she said and she was right. "Want half?" Half? What was she talking about?

"What's half?" I asked.

"Here," she said, "I'll show you," and shoved the pink one in my mouth. It was strawberry. So that was it. Half meant one jellybean. One's not much, not even enough for a snack, but she only had two to begin with, so I figured it was a pretty nice thing to do.

At lunch, my friend Anthony sat down beside with an entire bag of jellybeans.

"Would you like half?" he asked. Half? Half meant one jellybean. That was fine if you only had two to start with, but Anthony had a whole bag. And he'd only share one measly jellybean! I told him no thanks.

That afternoon when I got home from school I had the biggest surprise of all. My little sister Ashley, had won some sort of contest with this jellybean company. She's won a years supply of jellybeans.

"Don't worry sis," she said, "you can have half." Half? All those jellybeans, and I could only have one! And then worst yet, my mother told her she was very nice for sharing. They both know jellybeans are my favorite. I ran upstairs to my room before they could see me crying.

Where is the humor in this story?
