Futurama Episode Review: The Luck of the Fryrish

Steve Helmer

Synopsis: Fry travels to Old New York to find his lucky 7-leaf clover. However, he discovers the clover is missing and believes it was stolen by his older brother; who also stole his life.

What I liked about this episode: I think the part I liked most about this episode is how it gives us a little more background on Fry and his life in the 20th century. I especially liked how they showed his dysfunctional home, starting with how he was born, his mom didn't really care and his dad named him after a screwdriver.

The twist at the end involving what really happened to his 7-leaf clover and the identity of the guy he thinks is his brother is also pretty cool. I remember seeing this episode before (probably when it first came out) but, had I not known the ending already, I probably would have been very surprised by it.

What I didn't like about this episode: As I said before, I liked learning a little more about his background and his life in the 20th century. Because of that, I wish the episode had one or two more flashbacks about it; perhaps a bit more about his actual childhood prior to finding the clover.

Final Opinion: This is actually a pretty decent episode with a somewhat heart-warming (and even a bit sad) ending. I recommend taking the time to watch it if you get a chance.
