Futurama Episode Review: War is the H-Word

Steve Helmer
Synopsis: In order to get the 5 percent discount at stores, Fry and Bender join the military only to have Earth declare war on another planet seconds later.

What I liked about this episode: I think the part I found to be the funniest was how Earth declared war on a planet it knew nothing about, including what kind of creature inhabited it but felt its enemy was the exact opposite in its beliefs. That's the kind of satire that got me hooked on this show in the first place.

The fact the enemy is a race of ball-like people was also pretty funny considering everything they discussed in peace talks had something to do with bouncing. Again, that's not what you would expect an alien race to look like or behave like.

What I didn't like about this episode: The part with Leela having to dress up like a man so she could enlist wasn't as funny as I thought it would be; despite the fact Zapp Brannigan found himself attracted to her even though he believed she was a man.

I also wasn't a fan of Bender sacrificing himself by jumping on that bomb; just because it is so out of character for him. It would have been better if he had some sort of ulterior motive for doing so (preferably one that would earn him some sort of profit).

Final Opinion: This was an OK episode but I honestly wasn't as interested in it as I thought I would be because it could have been much better.
