Future Funk and Fighting Gravity Go to Semi Finals on AGT

Christina & Ali and Nate Kenyon Also Survive on America's Got Talent

Tonight was more of a sigh of relief than a shocker on America's Got Talent. The voting public did not allow for any silly groups to slip into the semi final round. Voters decided the first three acts to go through and the fourth was left to the judges to choose between the 4th and 5th vote-getters.

The acts were called out in groups of three. The first group consisted of Airpocalypse, Nate Kenyon and Sally Cohn. Nathaniel Kenyon, the sickly singer from last night (with Justin Bieber hair) was the only slight surprise of the night. I thought he might wind up getting picked by the judges, but apparently his looks carried him to the semi finals of AGT.

Selena Gomez took the stage to perform her new single, or rather to lip sync. She did look fantastic in a beautiful dress. I'll giver her performance a Paula Abdul clap.

The second group called to the stage was Nick Pike, Kung Fu Heroes and Fighting Gravity. I feared I may not be able to watch more of AGT if Fighting Gravity did not prevail in this group. As the dramatic pause held while the camera pans the sweating contestants, Nick Pike was seen pointing and mouthing "Fighting Gravity!" Sure enough, my favorite group was sent on to the next round. They did allow Nick Pike to apologize for his shortness with the judges last night. I'm excited to see what the Virginia Tech frat boys of Fighting Gravity give us next.

The third group of AGT contestants consisted of Hot Shot Tap Dancers, Christina & Ali and Maricar. This was a complete coin toss between sisters Christina & Ali and the family of tap dancers. Christina & Ali had the slight edge with good singing and a great sad story. I think the tappers really need a better name. We will see the singing sisters in the semi finals.

Wine was the only thing missing from the cheese-fest of Constantine Maroulis and "Rock of Ages" with a guest appearance by Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Snider still has a big voice, and lots of hair. Constantine is a good performer. I believe tweeter @TheLastShow said it best, "Loved Constantine on American Idol. Rock & cheese at its best! He's found his niche with Rock of Ages show."

The last group to take the AGT stage tonight was RNG, Paul Safy Jr. and Future Funk. Paul Safy seemed to know he was doomed and was quickly put out of his misery by Nick Cannon. Leaving the judges to choose between the group of five girls, all under 11 and quite talented, and two of the cutest boys ever. Both Bailey and Miles have a stage presence that you just can't teach. Nor can you stop it from happening. I thought the girls were technically better dancers but they are older and there are more of them. The five year old in Future Funk even had wardrobe problems but kept right on time.

The judges pondered during the final commercial. Piers started off showing his obvious love for Future Funk and giving them his vote. Little Bailey literally hit the floor, and the two immediately resumed their praying positions. Sharon played spoiler and gave her vote to a tearful RNG. Leaving Howie Mandel with the final decision. After enough hemming and hawing to outwit most DVRs, Howie finally sucked it up and voted Future Funk through to the semi final rounds of America's Got Talent 2010. Say what you will about them being too young, but these kids are made for entertaining.

The next quarterfinal live AGT show is next Tuesday at 9/8c with the results show on Wednesday at 9/8c on NBC.

Prince Poppycock for me, but Fighting Gravity next. My daughter love Michael Grimm, but more so Taylor Matthews.
