I love new products, and especially energy/fitness ones, so I purchased the O1 Prime, 02 Perform, and 03 Recover products. Before sale price they would have been around $8.
Today I am reviewing the 01 Prime pre-workout fuel energy bites. The flavor I chose was Cinnamon Raisin Flax.
It comes in a thin box with an open end at the top. On the front is states, 'natural fruit and nuts'. It is made by Gatorade, and the net weight is 1.6 ounce (47 g). However there are 4 bites and they are 0.41 ounce (11.75 g).
I slid the product out of the box, and there were 4 sealed packaged, which were attached to each other. They have a perforation line between them. It states on them, 'Consume 1-4 pieces depending on workout intensity'.
At age 63 I don't do an intense workout. I tend to walk, jog, do aerobics, or swim. I do a little weight training, but nothing strenuous.
So I tore off one of the small containers, and pulled back the foil top. Inside was an energy bite that measured one and a half inches x seven eighths of an inch, x three eighths of an inch. Yes, they are small. The top and the bottom are covered with white paper, that you pull off.
The bar is barely 2 bites. It is a beige color, with tiny bits of raisin, and flaxseeds. When I bit into it, and ate half of it, I could taste the raisin, almonds, and the flaxseed. It was a nice enough taste, but nothing exciting. It was gone so quickly that I decided I had to have a second piece.
The calorie content for 4, which is the whole box, is 190. Calories from fat 70.
Total fat 8g.
Sat. fat 1g.
Trans fat. 0.5 g.
Cholesterol 0 mg.
Sodium 50 mg.
Potassium 180 mg.
Total Carb. 26 g.
Dietary fiber 2g.
Sugars 16 g.
Protein 7g.
It contains very little Vitamins.
So did I feel full, and ready for action? Not really. However, I didn't want to have the whole bar, because I do not do a long, or hard workout.
I did 20 minutes aerobics, 10 minutes of yoga, and then finished with a walk.
If I had worked out more then I would have used the G Series Fit 02 for my workout hydration. Once the workout was over I could then have the 03, which is a post-workout replenishment.
Gatorade make this line of products, and I didn't find it to be any better than protein, or energy bars that I have tried in the past. Saying that, I have to say that it had a better flavor and texture than most of them
If I were an athlete, or a trainer, then I would have eaten the whole bar, and trained much harder.
One thing I don't like about this bar, and it is because I have false teeth, is that the whole flaxseeds got under my bottom denture, and I couldn't get them out. I had to go into the bathroom, and wash them under the faucet. This would have been so embarrassing if I had been at a gym.
The sale price for this bar, on it's own, was $1.50., which seems a lot for 1.6 ounces of 'bites'. I very much doubt that I will purchase it again.
