G & W 1% Hydrocortisone Ointment with Aloe

Maximum Strength with Aloe that Relieves Itches and Rashes

Susan Slade
I buy many of my first aid products from Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar, or generics from drugstores, to try and save money. However, Len's H.M.O. sent him a tube of G & W 1% Hydrocortisone Ointment with Aloe.

I thought this to be a generic, and then found them on the Internet. Yes, they make generics and they say that this is compared to 'Cortaid'.

It comes in a 1 ounce (28.4 g) white tube, with orange on the right side, and blue lettering.

We have had it in the house for a few months now, and the other night I went out for a walk, and got bitten. It was at dusk so I guess it was a mosquito. I had a red bump come up on my neck, and it started to itch like crazy.

So I went to my box of medications, and instead of using one that I have tried before, I went for the A & W 1% Hydrocortisone Ointment. I unscrewed the top, and squeezed a small amount on the tip of my index finger. It is a thick, almost clear gel.

I stood in front of the mirror, so that I would be sure to get it on the red bump, which was now driving me crazy. I put in on the area, and waited for it to cool down. I noticed that it wasn't irritating 2 to 3 minutes later.

I then got on with what I was doing, and was fine until just before I went to bed. I felt that I had to scratch the bump, and before I did that. I washed the area, dried it with a clean face cloth. I applied another tiny amount of the hydrocortisone ointment, and waiting for it to start working again.

During the night I always wake up to go to the bathroom, my age, and didn't even think about the bite.

The following morning I took my shower, and was as careful as possible not to rub the insect bite, but by the time I had dried myself the irritation had started again. I put a third application on my neck.

After that I really didn't feel it anymore. It states on the box that if can be used 3 - 4 times daily, but either the bite wasn't too bad, or the ointment worked quickly for me.

Uses:

"Temporary relief of itching due to minor skin irritations, inflammation, and rashes due to eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, insect bites, soaps, detergents, cosmetic, jewelry."

This ointment can be used for children 2 and over, and under that age you should consult a doctor. Please keep it out of the reach of children as it is for external use only.

I also read that this can be used instead of Preparation H, which I have in the house, and paid quite a bit of money for it.

Although 1 ounce doesn't sound very much, this tube will last us 2 or 3 years, because a small amount goes a long way.

As I mentioned we received this free, as an extra benefit with Len's H.M.O., so I am not sure of the retail price. All I can tell you is that for me, it acted really quickly.
