Gaffney Serial Killer Shot and Killed

Gaffney Serial Killer Shot and Killed in North Carolina

Randy Inman
It is time to get tougher on crime in this country; if we were the 5 people slain by the Gaffney South Carolina Serial killer would be alive. The little town in South Carolina was rocked with a string of shooting deaths in the past week. The serial killer Patrick Burris has been killed by Gaston County North Carolina police officers.

Patrick Tracey Burris killed 5 people in the Gaffney South Carolina area recently in a shooting spree. Gaffney South Carolina was hit with a serial killer for the 2nd time after dealing with the "Gaffney Strangler" in the 1960's. Burris's shooting spree included a father and 16 year old daughter shot in their furniture store, and a woman in her 80's and her daughter bound and shot in their home.

According to Wsoctv.com Burris was a career criminal who got out of prison in April of this year after a 7 year sentence. He apparently also had a criminal record in at least 5 states.

Now this is hitting me a little close to home. I live near Gaston County North Carolina where the Gaffney Serial Killer had his criminal career ended. Patrick Tracey Burris had warrants for his arrest in Lincoln County North Carolina where I work. Those arrest warrants led to a shootout that injured one police officer before Burris was shot and killed.

A resident of Gaston County North Carolina saw a vehicle matching the description of the Gaffney Serial killers Ford Explorer. It was sitting outside an abandoned house in the early morning hours, she called the police.

When the officers got there they found 3 men including Patrick Tracey Burris who gave them a false name. The Gaston County Officers determined who Burris was and that he was wanted in Lincoln County.

At this point Burris produced a weapon and shot Officer J.K. Shaw of the Gaston County Police Department in either the foot or leg (there are conflicting reports). The officers then shot and killed Burris, and ended the Gaffney Serial Killer's rein of terror. Ballistics from the weapon Burris used was used to tie the man to the Gaffney South Carolina killings.

If this country worried more about keeping criminals off the streets than about Michael Jacksons's funeral we would be better off. Career Criminals should be locked up forever so they are not unleashed on society. People are more concerned with Jon and Kate and Michael Jackson's death than protecting society from career criminals.

A friend of mine in another state had emailed me earlier to make sure I was ok since Gaffney is not far from me. I informed her I was armed and watching for the vehicle in the description. I didn't realize it would hit that close to home and that he had been a resident near where I work.

If this country would get tough on crime, then crime would go down and lives would be saved. But no we are more concerned with pop culture than things that really matter in life. But at least the Gaffney Serial Killer is no longer on the loose.

Glad the officer will be ok and I'm glad the killer got what he deserved, death. People paying attention and calling police just saved a lot of lives.

Wow, I just tried to leave a positive comment and the site deleted it. I was trying to say that I agree that criminals like this should not be roaming the streets with records like that. And I agree that the public needs to focus more on state, local, and national issues instead of glorifying the likes of Michael Jackson, who was an accused pedophile. As for Jon and Kate...that doesn't even deserve a remark.

Well, I know you are not going to believe this, but I agree completely. What? Yes, as a good Liberal, I too think we need to be tougher on crime. With a record like this guy had in multiple states, he should have been in prison, not out wreaking havoc. I also agree that US citizens should be more concerned with what's going on both locally and nationally. This focus on Michael Jackson is over the top. The guy was an accused pedophile, for pete's sake. No amount of talent erases that. Jon and Kate aren't even worth commenting on.
