Gaia and the Creation in the Primordial Void

Creation of Earth

Cody Howell
There was darkness in the void and nothing more. Stillness, absolute emptiness. The flash which proceeded was equal in brilliance to the amount of darkness which existed just a moment before. The primordial elements mixed violently crashing like waves upon one another and swirling about in such violent frenzy. There was now only chaos.

When the elements cooled and collected there was once again calm. A sphere rested calmly in a place where pure chaos had raged previously. The sphere then shook showing distorted peaks and ridges rising out towards the heavens. In the low regions oceans formed, they sent attack after attack upon the land surrounding them. The waters destroyed, the land rebuilt and a communion was had between earth and sea. During this violent creation of the sphere's form, a conscious mind was born.

The mind flowed through the land bringing life among rocks and rubble, it created trees and flowers. This mind continued onward through the mountains, shaping their peaks and smoothing their curves. Next the mind soared over the lands, breathing out air so that life might survive. The mind then plunged beneath the waters, swimming through waves and down to trenches. In these places it created the fish and animals of the sea. Then the mind left the seas and sat among the mountains taking in all it had created. This place, this sphere and its creator shall be named Gaia, the Earth and the Earth Mother.

Gaia sat patiently watching as her creation thrived. The creatures of the sea eventually developed into creatures of the land and creatures of the sky. Gaia waited patiently. But after such a long time, Gaia grew lonely. Gaia was eternal, but even the eternal need company. So Gaia set back to work speeding up the progression of the creatures. She helped shape the development of her newest company, Gaia modeled the humans that would walk the land on two legs and create as Gaia had created.

The humans were a very needy animal, asking Gaia for many wishes to be granted and offering sacrifices of other animals. Sometimes the humans would pray for rain, and at other times they would beg for the rain to stop. When it was cold they would ask for warmth, and when it was hot they would ask for cool. They did not know what they wanted, but at least this kept Gaia happy and busy. The humans grew their crops upon the Earth Mother's land and took her animals for food, but the Earth Mother was happy and satisfied. Gaia once again rested among the mountains and watched her creations, interacting with them now and then. These new creations, the humans, would take Gaia's place as creators but they should never forget Gaia from which they were raised and created.
