I first became interested in politics when I was in high school. Bill Clinton was running for President. The first time I remember hearing anything about him was when Paula Jones was accusing him of sexual harassment. He and his wife, Hillary, appeared on TV defending himself against her. Controversy always seems to breed interest in people and I was no exception. Who is this guy? Where did he come from?

My family never paid much attention to politics, so by osmosis, it was something that never meant a great deal to me either. Something about this Bill guy, peaked my interest. I started following the political presidential race that year with avid interest. To tell you the truth, I couldn't much recall who all else ran that year. It was pretty much all about Bill that year. What did Bill have to say? How awesome were his sax playing skills? I found Bill Clinton very charismatic and an excellent speaker, as did thousands of others. Bill Clinton went on to win the bid for President for the year of 1992. During his presidency, he was impeached, but amazingly still won his bid for second term. I believe this was mostly due to his overwhelming popularity. Bill Clinton was an extremely popular president. Bill Clinton continues to be a very popular force in the Democratic party.

I avidly followed the whole Al Gore/George Bush debacle in 2000. Every morning after the election, I turned on CNN and listened to the discussions and debates that took place. Debates about the electoral college, hanging chads, counting votes, and recounting votes. I was highly interested in the whole process. Is the electoral college outdated? Why isn't a majority popular vote, the vote of the people, NOT enough to get a person elected?

My point to this story, and I do have one, is to get people interested in the political process. Get involved! Even it's just by going to vote. In this day and age, young people seem to have no interest in the political process and a lot couldn't tell you who was running for President.

The 2008 Presidential race is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get involved! The race is very exciting this time around. We have a lot more options than we normally we do. For example, the front runners in the democratic race for first time in history are not white guys. We've got an African American, a woman, and a Hispanic candidate. That is very exciting! I believe as citizens of the Unites States of America we are more than ready for a change. Get informed and then get involved!
