Gallbladder Disease and What May Prevent It

Pat Anthony
Gallbladder disease is rather common in the United State. Some physicians feel it is the affluent lifestyle of some that cause this illness.

Gallbladder disease causes more than 500,000 people in the United States alone to seek surgery. It is estimated that about 450 deaths occur each year due to such surgery. While some feel this is a low percentage, it has been said if it is your loved one who died it is 100% of those who had the surgery.

To prevent issues with gallbladder disease many doctors recommend a change in eating habits. Patients are sometimes resistant to make the changes until they have had more than one attack. Doctors may feel forced to do gallbladder surgery with such patients. This is often done as an emergency procedure.

Doctors may advise patients to eat less cholesterol containing foods. This means limiting animal products. Also, packaged products must be checked for ingredients, as cholesterol can be in these as well. Instead of these foods vegetables and fruits are recommended. Making such a change can be easy if a person knows it will prevent pain.

If you think you are having a gallbladder attack, seek medical help. A physician can request tests to determine what is causing your pain and suggest treatments. If you have a fever while having what you think is a gallbladder attack a visit to an emergency room may be needed.

Some physicians feel the thyroid is the true culprit if a person has gallbladder disease. As blood tests are usually performed before any procedure this can be ruled out before you make your decision to move ahead with surgery.

Gallbladder surgery can lead to many changes. Patients find they are still not able to eat many of the foods that seem to have caused the gallbladder issues. Others claim they have gained enormous amounts of weight after the surgery while some say diarrhea is their constant companion. These reasons alone may be enough to help people try the diet plan recommended by their physician.
