Gambling Tips for Beginners

Amy Brantley
Gambling can be really fun, but it can also be really intimidating for beginners. After all, you want to leave the casino having at least broken even. No one wants to go home a loser, but not everyone can be winners either. There are several tips beginners can follow to ensure that they have a great gambling experience. Here are just a few of those wonderful tips.

Beginners Gambling Tip #1: Study

Before a beginner hits the casino, they must study the games first. There are several great books to be found in bookstores that explain the games that beginners will find in casinos. It is very important for the beginner to read about any games that they plan on playing. For example, before gambling, the beginner may want to read up on Black Jack. Black Jack is a wonderful game for beginners to start out with because it is one of the only games that casinos lose money on. Regardless of the game the beginner is going to choose, they need to know the ins and outs of that game before beginning.

Beginners Gambling Tip #2: Practice Online

Before a beginner starts gambling with real money, they should do some practicing at an online casino. Now I don't mean one of those casinos that you have to make a deposit to. What I mean is a website that helps teach you how to gamble. There are several websites that allow you to practice gambling before actually hitting the casinos. At Poker Stars the beginner can learn how to gamble, by playing games for free.

Beginners Gambling Tip #3: Ask a Gaming Host to Explain the Game

A wonderful tip that beginners may not think of, is to ask a gaming host to explain how the gambler is to play the game. Nothing is worse than putting money into a machine only to lose it because the you don't understand how to play the game. Gaming hosts are more than happy to show gamblers how to play a game. Beginners should remember to tip the gaming host if they win.

Beginners Gambling Tip #4: Start Out Low

Beginners should not start out at games that cost $5 a bet. Even if the beginner has been practicing for quite some time, they should start out at games that require a $1 or less to play. This will help give the beginner a feel for the casino and slowly they will get the hang of gambling in a real casino, which is very different from gambling in their quite homes. Starting out low will also allow the beginner to see if they are any good at gambling. Losing a few dollars here and there won't hurt as bad as losing several hundred dollars. Also remember to only bring the amount of money you are prepared to lose.

Beginners Gambling Tip #5: Find Out About Promotions

Casinos offer all kinds of promotions. When the beginner first arrives at the casino, it's important that they find out if the casino offers a rewards card. These cards will keep track of how much the gambler plays. The card will also allow the gambler to earn free meals, hotel rooms, etc. Casinos also offer several giveaways. For example, casinos often give away cars, trucks, and other high dollar items. It's very important for the beginner to find out about these promotions. Last, but not least, casinos usually have coupons for area attractions and restaurants in the area will usually have really good deals to entice gamblers to eat at their restaurant. This is a wonderful tip because it helps to make up for any money the gambler may have lost.
