Game Review - the Adventures of Batman & Robin

Man, Konami sure killed it when they released The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the SNES in 1994! And by killed it, I mean hit the nail on the head (if you know what I mean)! The Adventures of Batman & Robin is an action-packed myriad of delightfully cartoonish levels and environments that keeps me coming back for more!

In The Adventures of Batman & Robin, there's simply no plot. Like a lot of great action games, however, this doesn't matter! It lacks a plot-but doesn't need one! This is totally made up for by the gameplay, which is allowed extreme focus in light of zero storyline (though each individual level does have some semblance of a "reason" for you to complete your given task, such as fighting crime).

Perhaps my second-favorite aspect of The Adventures of Batman & Robin, the graphics are pretty damn cool. The developers of this game took as much advantage as possible of the SNES's abilities (perhaps to live up to Sega's version, but regardless) and pushed the system to create a vibrant and colorful action-packed environment. Each background has wonderful detail (for instance, the moon in the sky is always really cool looking), and everything is quite realistic in terms of flexibility-enemies can even become disarmed and fist-fight! Character sprites are pretty cool, too-mirroring those of the old Batman cartoon.

If you have a good sound system like I do, you'll truly appreciate the full audio quality of The Adventures of Batman & Robin. Similarly to many successful action-oriented games and movies, The Adventures of Batman & Robin contains a full orchestral score consisting of a number of huge bands. Every level is accompanied by a wonderfully loud and exhilarating symphony to keep the action flowing.

The learning curve and difficulty of The Adventures of Batman & Robin are pretty basic, consisting of simplistic controls, basic jumping and avoiding techniques, and basic combat. The simplicity of controls and ease of learning curve does not indicate a stale and unvaried gameplay experience, however, and The Adventures of Batman & Robin is quite wonderful in all of these aspects.

The Adventures of Batman & Robin is an action-packed compilation of a number of the best elements of a good game. Lush environments with detailed backgrounds, a fun and cartoonish style, great action elements with realistic combat, side-scrolling enemy and obstacle avoidance and a fun number of difficult levels keep me coming back for more. The Adventures of Batman & Robin receives an A+ rating from me.
