Game Review - Aero the Acro-Bat 2 (SNES)

Natasha Fox
Boy, am I glad there's an Aero the Acro-Bat 2! A video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, this game is a sequel to the game I was... batty... for, and wrote my previous review on.

Honestly, I don't think they focused too much on a plot for Aero the Acro-Bat 2-it seems like it's just a play on the success of the previous installment in the series in order to turn a profit. You'll hear no complains from me, however, as this game is still magnificent! The omnipotent clowns are still that-all over the darn place, and you still have to do random circus acts in order to create the warp-out for any given platform level. Granted there is virtually no change in plot for this game, I still love it.

Graphics in Aero the Acro-Bat 2 haven't changed in terms of their coolness; I enjoy the basic environments. There are still the classic tents available, and trapeze bars, and flying nets, and flaming hoops... no change there! New additions to the scenery include spiked balls, cannons, giant billboards, and posters. The clowns look slightly more sinister, having gained some sneery grin since the last installment of the game.

The audio tracks in the game are not as good as in the previous installments; this time around, Aero the Acro-Bat 2 utilizes lame clown music. This honestly got on my nerves after a while, but with my home sound system I was able to override them with my own music. The sound effects remain, as does that annoyingly angering "yowch" from the previous installment of Aero the Acro-Bat.

The learning curve and difficulty of Aero the Acro-Bat 2 are exactly the same as in the previous installment, and this game takes advantage of the level warp system rather than the level-end completion system, like the previous game does. It took me very little time to learn, but it may take others a longer amount; keep in mind that you have to perform various tricks and tasks to get the level warp to appear.

This game is about as good as the last. Aero the Acro-Bat 2 is a solid platformer with some good elements that set it apart from every-other-title out there, making it not-so-boring and a lot of hours of time-wasting. While not a huge upgrade from its predecessor, it is indeed a new installment in the series, which isn't much less than I could've asked for. All-in-all, Aero the Acro-Bat 2 receives another five bats out of five from yours truly.
