Game Room Decorating: Playing Card Dresser

This great playing card dresser is great for a casino themed bedroom. Or, use this piece in a game room to hold board games, a television, or anything else desired.

For this project, you will need:

- One wooden dresser in fairly good condition
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Banner Red
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Masking tape
- Playing cards
- Scissors
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other type of decoupage medium
- Craft roller
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

Before starting your dresser project, cover the area in which you will be working with several sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Remove any hardware from the dresser and set it safely aside. Carefully sand any rough or worn edges on the outside of the dresser cabinet and all drawer fronts using medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe any dust off the wood with a tack cloth or other type of soft cloth.

Prime both the outside of the dresser cabinet and all drawer fronts with three to five layers of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primer dry completely. Paint the outside of the dresser cabinet using four to five coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Paint each of the drawer fronts using four to five coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Banner Red. Allow the painted pieces to dry overnight before proceeding.

Use masking tape and a ruler to cover a half inch all around on the drawer fronts. With scissors, cut the playing cards so that they fit inside the area not covered by masking tape. Do this for each drawer front.

Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the backside of each playing card. Immediately adhere the cards to the drawer fronts, avoiding the border of masking tape. Smooth the playing cards with a small craft roller to help them adhere to the dresser fronts. Continue this process until all the drawer fronts are covered with the trimmed playing cards. Let the glue dry completely.

Remove the masking tape from the drawer fronts to reveal a half inch border of exposed red paint around the playing card section. Spray each of the drawer fronts using Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Once dry, reinstall the hardware onto the drawers. Insert the drawers into the black painted dresser cabinet and enjoy your new creation.
