Gears of War is a hard game to play online, especially for a new player, and a key to becoming good at Gears of War online is knowing the popular levels and where to find the most valuable weapons. Knowing where the Boom Shot, Sniper Rifle, and Torque Bow are can help you immensely as you struggle for survival against you r opponents.

Make sure you play the multiplayer maps in versus mode with a friend, or by yourself before heading online. This will allow you to roam the maps free and clear without being shot at. Learn the levels, and figure out where the best locations are for certain situations. Find the best sniper location, best hiding spot, most accessible location and so on. Also note the location of the key weapons on each map.

The most popular maps while playing online are the Mansion, Grid Lock, and Channels so make sure you know these levels inside and out. Also be familiar with Clock Tower and Garden just in case you get matched up in these levels.

Mansion is a rather small and basic level. You have an outside area to fight in, but many times you'll find yourself inside the huge mansion engaged in combat. This level uses the Sniper Rifle and Boom shot as key weapons. The Sniper Rifle is on the second floor of the mansion, and there is only one, so finders keepers. The Boom shot is located in the mansions backyard behind the broken stone walls. Again there is only one Boom shot, so be first, or be last.

Channels is a larger level, but narrow. There are two sniper rifles to be grabbed in this level, and one Torque Bow. The sniper rifles are located on the first bridges where you start, just go up the stairs and onto the center of the bridge to pick it up, but be careful to avoid the enemy sniper. The Torque bow is located straight ahead in the level as soon as you start under the second bridge. Most of the time you're going to have to fight a huge battle to obtain this weapon because it's located in the dead center of the map.

Grid Lock is the most played level in Gears of War, so be very familiar with this map. The key weapons here are the sniper rifle and boom shot. The sniper rifle is in the tower straight ahead as you round the first corner of the level. Try throwing a smoke bomb in the tower to confuse an opponent and grab the sniper rifle, or just be prepared for a long had fire fight. The Boom shot is located in the little tunnel where all the cars have crashed, just in front of the sniper tower. The best way to get the boom shot is going to be getting behind enemy lines and taking out the opponent from behind, just be careful not to get sniped.
