Gamer TV Championship

The Best Job in the World

Jodie Gibson
While watching the gamer's championship this weekend on Pay-per-view, a few thoughts surfaced in my head.

1. Microsoft has a lot of money.

2. Dude, $10,000 for 1 race ?!?!

3. I need to game more.

I'll admit, I do alot of leisurely activities, from watching brand new movies (not that they're all masterpieces, because let's face it, some were pure uncreative thoughts slammed together with equally bad actors, directors, and cameramen) as well as listening to new music (that is good, such as Rebel Meets Rebel, Slayer, Black Label Society, Dragonforce....)....yeah, with music I could go on forever.....

I've done my share of gaming, but seems I need to oil up the ol' thumbs, get my trigger fingers ready, and get down to training, because if you really can make a life from playing video games, wow, somebody lied to me long ago.

However, I do hesitate, after all, what would be the point in looking at the clock, or anywhere from the tv screen; I mean, you really couldn't afford to miss anything. And one could argue that you could live life through the video games now, but again, what would be the point, with only yourself around when you finally do go to sleep. I couldn't imagine not going anywhere, doing anything, just sitting, and playing.....

Though I do have a wireless controller, does that mean I'll incorporate gaming into my multi-tasking life, during exercise time, perhaps running in place with my soldier mates on a first person shooter, or doing jumping jacks after passing a level? No, I'm not that serious.....I hope.

Yet it does boggle my brain to think someone earned ten grand in less than two minutes, with one race, and it wasn't even real; no sponsers like at Nascar, just a screen and a bunch of serious gamers.
Now that's high wager playing.

There were many prizes awarded, including Best Buy shopping sprees (of unspecified amounts), to go along with the cash. And you didn't have to be number one to win money. $5,000 for second place is not a bad consolation prize.

Now, I'm wondering how old you must be to enter, because my five year old does head shots like he's a trained Marine sharpshooter.

I know I certainly won't tell him he's wasting too much time playing video games. Maybe he's just in training. All I know, is today's games are alot different than the Atari and Mario games I grew up on.

I'm 32, I've got a weird sense of humor, and a huge collection of rock n roll posters, most older than myself. I have a seven year old son and ten years of wedded-like bliss. I've gone to tons of concerts...  View profile

  • You can make alot of money next year playing vieo games.
  • You don't have to be the best to win money.
  • Is there such a thing as too much television?
Millions are spent annually on video games, accessories, and consoles, not to mention other extras available.
