Activity one, could be make a game of smelling and discovering what it is. Get five empty plastic cups. Fill them up with strong foods that you could smell. Example would be, one cup you could fill up with onion. Second cup fill up with orange. Third cup fill up with strawberry. Fourth could be filling with slice of apples. Fifth could be filling up with slices of watermelon. You do not have to use fruits; you could use other foods that are strong smells. When you put each fruit inside the cup, do not let children see. Cover it right away with paper towel. Punch small holes thru paper towels. Tape the paper towel around the cup. When you are finish gather children around. Have each of them smell the cup and guess what it is. Write on a notepad who guesses what. At the end reward the child with the correct cup they guess. If you do not want to do this, reward every child that tries to guess what is inside the cup. This game would help them develop the smelling senses.
Another activity you could do with the children are looking at the color and guess what fruit it is. What I do is gather for empty glass clears containers. I would gather four fruits or vegetables that could be smash and show color. Smash roots and put each individual on container. Put a lid on each container. Pass around each of the containers. Let children study the color and do not rush them. Ask each of them will color it is, and what do they think it is. Write in a notepad, how many children guess the correct item. Then reward all of them by letting them eat what is inside containers. This activity would help stimulate thinking and learning color.
Third activity would be put on an item in an empty box. Touch it and guess what it is. This item could be any item of your choice. Just be sure to get something that would be easy to identify. Gather soft items or rough items. Gather four items and put them in empty small boxes. Close the boxes and do not let children see them. Cover children eye which a handkerchief. Then ask child to reach in touch what is inside the box. Let them feel the texture and do not rush them. Ask what it is inside the box. If they guess correct, tell them and pull out the item. Remove from table and precede with other boxes. This activity would help with touching and describing texture.
These three activities are very fun to do at daycare. Not only are they are having fun but they are stimulating the brain and using their smell, touching and seeing. This is a fun and learning activity that should be use at day care center.
