Games for Movie Night: Movie Quote Match Game

Movie Party Games to Play

Nicole A.
A homemade match game is easy to setup and fun to play for all guests participating in a movie night. There are many ways to develop games for movie night that work parallel to this type of party theme. Here is a quick user guide for one DIY movie quote match game that can be used to entertain guests. It is one of the least expensive movie party games to play on any occasion.

Instructions
Get a list of AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes to play this movie party game. The American Film Institute ranked the most memorable quotes from great movies spanning 100 years. This helps to make it likely that guests at your movie night party will be familiar with the quotes no matter what age they are. Some entertainment magazines and popular websites publish their own version of famous movie quotes. These lists can be used as an alternative resource to create your Movie Quote Match Game.

Alternative quote lists may work better if the majority of guests at your movie party are less than 21 years of age. The Internet Movie Database is another reliable source for movie quotes if the AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes list will not be of interest. Select between 10 and 20 movie quotes from the 100 count list to create a Match Game master list for your party. List the movie quotes on the right or left side of a piece of paper that will become your game sheet. Write sequential numbers or letters next to each quote on the game sheet.

Draw an empty line on the paper directly across from each movie quote. Using a typewriter or computer to list these items is another option. The computer method will give this movie party game a neater appearance, making the playing instructions and quotes easier for guests to understand. Type a short explanation of the playing instructions at the top of the game sheet for guests if preferred. Make copies of this game sheet to match the total number of guests expected at your movie night party.

How to Play
Guests must write the name of the movie that contained each quote on their game sheets. The guest who correctly matches all quotes to their movies wins this movie party game. You can also set a specific timeframe for guests to complete this match game. Doing so will keep the game from going on throughout the entire duration of your movie party. The timed option works best if there are several other activities planned for the night or if this game will be used as an ice breaker to start your party off right. As a movie party game host, decide whether prizes will be given to guests or not.

Rules
Movie title verification should be made at the party host's discretion only. The host should determine if movie titles are valid and can be counted toward winning entries. Verification may be needed if a guest's match game entry does not include the entire title of a movie (The guest wrote "Transformers 2" instead of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Matches that include the wrong title from a movie franchise or sequel (A quote from Star Wars that was in Episode 2 but written down as "Star Wars" or "Star Wars: Episode 1", or written as "James Bond" instead of "License to Kill") are not valid.

Movie Quote Match Game Play B: An alternative option for playing this game is to list quotes and their matching titles on one game sheet. List the quotes and titles out of orders and instruct the guests to match them up correctly.
