Games for Two

Rebecca Hayes
My husband and I often faced an interesting dilemma when we were first married. We loved to play games, but it was often only the two of us. So we went in search of fun games for only two people. Here are the ones we've enjoyed:

Battleship

This is one of our favorites because it is easily set up, and is different every time you play. Another great aspect of the game is that you can get really into it and make it competitive, or just play a leisurely game. We played it so often that we became very good at knowing where the other person liked to place their ships so we had to get creative and really try to stump each other.

Scrabble

Scrabble is a great game if you love crossword puzzles and like to get competitive. We would often make it even harder by stipulating that all the words had to fit into a topic such as things you would find in an office.

Darts

Darts is a perfect two player game if you want to get up and moving a bit more. A board may cost a little bit initially but it will most likely get plenty of use. We played games where we followed the traditional rules or even made up our own. My husband even helped me celebrate graduating from college by posting my college schedule on the dart board and helping me throw darts at it until it was in pieces.

Jacks

Amazingly this is one of our favorites. We got the jack set at a party as a gag gift and out of boredom opened it up one evening and actually learned how to play. We have a blast with the game and enjoy the chance it gives us to be a little more goofy.

Two Player Card Games

There are a huge variety of two player card games out there; War, Slapjack, Sixty-Six and so on. Our favorite is speed. It's a fast moving game that is easy to set up and easy to play. Pick up a book at your local library on card games to learn the rules and find a game that you'll enjoy.

Backgammon

This game may be a little more involved, but once you learn how to play you will wonder why you never did. It is a great game of strategy and perfect for only two players.
