Much like platform shoes, sagging jeans and high/low fives, The Street Fighter series will never truly die out. Those legendary martial artists of the video game world are immortal. The world warriors have a lot going for them . I've compiled a list of some of my favorite trivia and easter eggs in Street Fighter games.
It's an invasion.
There are a load of Final Fight cameos throughout the Street Fighter Zero/Alpha series. Guy's stage in Alpha 2 is loaded with major and minor characters from Capcom's walk to the left, and punch stuff franchise. Notable faces include Hugo, Poison, Haggar, Cody and Jessica. With Cody becomming playable in Alpha 3, that left Mike Haggar as the odd man out. He repriced his role as just another piece of background dressing, along with Poison and Hugo in Alpha 3.
Ken Masters' stage in Alpha 2 also features a wealth of interesting cameos. If you look closely, you'll notice likenesses of Morrigan and Felicia(Darkstalkers), Strider Hiryu, Ginzu and Captain Commando. Akuma appeared as a hidden character in X-Men: Children of the Atom. Blanka is more of a mutant than Akuma, but not every cameo is supposed to make perfect sense I guess..
Lineage of a fighter.
Not counting vs. games, Zangief has appeared in about 16 street fighter games to date. Grapplers are one of the corner stones of fighting games. Just like Ryu is known as the template for the token karate guy, 'Gief really doesn't have a rival when it comes to being the token wrestler.Speaking of Ryu, he's been around since the first game, so he's about 20 or so titles deep thus far.
Playing both sides of the field.
Besides being one of the cheapest boss characters in any Capcom game, Gill is also one of the unique in terms of all fighting games characters. All other 2D fighting game character sprites use a mirroring effect.Which means all frames of animation that face left, are flipped to the right and used again. This explains why Guile has an American flag tattoo on both arms.
Gill's body is half blue and half red(representing his ability to use fire and ice based attacks respectively.) Capcom actually used two different sets of sprites that utilized Gill's special abilities based on which direction he faces. When looking to an opponent at his right, his punches and kicks freeze and stuns you with ice attacks. When facing left, he burns your soul with extreme prejudice .
