Gang Violence in Deep Ellum in Dallas Closes Club Scene for the Night

Robert Edwards
It was a normal Sunday night in Dallas' Nationally re-known club scene of "Deep Ellum." Around 1 a.m. it seemed to be quite, people laughing, drinking, socializing, and having a good time. Until gun shots rang out unto the nights peacefulness.

Two rival gangs found each other at the same night club, (Club Seven - located at 2505 Pacific Ave. Dallas, Tx). The night club is considered to be a part of Dallas' re-known hot spot "Deep Ellum", however is almost in East downtown. This reporter was about 1 block away from this melee and so I set out to find the answers and truth to what went wrong that evening.

According to a local 7-11 convenience store cashier (whom would like to remain nameless) said that, "The incident was on a larger scale than most other crimes that often plague this part of town. Although, this store remained open during the 'excitement.'"

As I sat in my apartment 1 block away from the night club, I witnessed over 25 Dallas police squad cars rushing to the scene of the crime. Also, the Dallas police had their helicopter patrol out as well. After the first shots rang out, it was like this part of "Deep Ellum" shut down. People were in a panic and over 40 vehicles fled the scene almost all together. And if that wasn't enough, people on the over-pass of Highway 76, were throwing their alcohol bottles out of their car windows. Perhaps because almost all of Dallas' police officers were called to the scene from all directions in Dallas.

One club owner (who's club name and personal identity would like to remain name-less) told me that, "When it comes to alcohol, drugs, and violence, we all are not safe in any city." "This club," he said, "shall remain open for business as usual. One rotten apple sometimes doesn't spoil the bunch," he replied.

Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were injured. Although the person's involved escaped for the time being. In my opinion, all Dallas' inhabitants must understand that we live in the #2 Worst Crime Plagued City in the United States and things like this sometimes happens. But it does not mean that we should shield ourselves and hide ourselves away from the rest of the world. Just stay away from certain dangers in the city, such as "Deep Ellum," and go to a club in Richardson instead. Then again, this sort of activity and horror can happen anywhere.
