Gap Between Rich, Poor Growing

"Some guys have all the luck,
Some guys have all the pain;
Some guys get all the breaks,
Some guys do nothing but to wait."

So goes Rod's Stewart's song. Just this morning, I browsed the web and read "The Rich Get Richer."

They surely are "the lucky guys"; what with their enormous accumulations. And mind you, the figures are astounding to say the least. Have you added $12.4 billion in your bank account yet? Well, Warren Buffett did just that; "he added that amount (italics mine) to his net worth and now is only a few billion dollars shy of ending Bill Gates' ten-year reign as the richest person on the planet."

Good news is, there are, according to Forbes," 587 billionaires to date, including 64 newcomers." Wow! How's that? And the bad news?

Conversely, one billion poor people live on $1 a day to live through it, with the Ultra Poor (about 162 million people) surviving on a measly $0.50.

What grave disparity. While a rich person is contemplating what signature fragrance or what Armani to wear for the day, or in which 5-star hotel to date his girlfriend, billions are scrimping on the crumbs and millions are sorting through garbage to find dinner for the family.

Well, that's the way of the world. Nothing is ever new. How I wish I could convince the prestigious 587 to at least see the flight of the less endowed. There must be a reason why some individuals are blessed with enormous wealth. Surely there is.

I wish they take thought as to why they received such great blessings. I wish. I wish. Well, since no one can ever take a single penny to heaven, or elsewhere hereafter, why not do some amazing move to at least alleviate suffering from around the globe?

I understand that there are of course, some humanitarian philanthropists eagerly helping out. But as I see it, there is still much poverty and suffering that need to be addressed.

I recall a public figure whose single bottle of wine could have served 50,000 families some food for the table while he drank himself to sleep with boxes of this brand of wine. As he wakes up, he talks to the press and proclaim he is the man "for the poor" (sic).

Hi! I have been a choir director for over two decades now. I guess I have found that that is my calling. Currently, I have three choirs.  View profile

    The gap is shrinking now due to this real estate and stock market bust. The rich have a larger proportion of wealth tied up in equity holdings.
