As warm summer weather draws near for most of the nation, our attention typically turns to around-the-house activities and projects that are best accomplished in the warmer weather months. Surely there's things that are done yearly such as spring cleaning, exterior improvements, landscaping project and so on, but this time we're going to tackle some garage improvement projects. In particular, we'll discuss the benefits and how-to's of garage floor painting.

Now if you've got dingy, stained cement in your garage and would like to transform it into something much more inviting and cleaner, then look no further than garage floor paint. The task is a simple do-it-yourself project that takes a day's worth of time, a few more days of drying time and can last for years.

The task of painting your garage floor starts with gathering the materials needed for the project. First you will have to select a garage floor paint from one of the many choices available. Some of the most basic paints can be purchase for less than $100 while top-end two coat systems will run you several hundreds of dollars. The choice is really dependent upon your budget. After selecting the paint, pick up a concrete cleaner, a scrub brush with a long pole attachment, some gloves, a paint roller, painter's tape and you're all set to go.

The process is simple. Start by removing all items from the floor of your garage. Then thoroughly clean the floor with the cement cleaner and scrub brush. Rinse and repeat the process several times. When the floor is clean, tape off any areas that you may not want painted. Next, put your gloves on, mix up your epoxy paint as per the instructions and roll out the first coat. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly. Most paints will require two coats, with some traction material sprinkled in, and possibly a clear coat on top. When complete, allow the floor to dry according to the instruction before you attempt to drive or park on the surface.

When thoroughly dry, pull you car in and enjoy the transformation. The floor paint will not only rejuvenate the space, it will also make cleaning up spills a simple task and will make working on cars in your garage a much cleaner experience. All of this is achieved within a few hours for only a few hundred dollars. It's money well spent that will be enjoyed for years to come.
