Garage Materialism is Growing

Keith Dailey
The only way families could measure their financial prosperity, since time immemorial when the suburbs were built, was through the garage. Initially, it started with a single garage, then two, three but the new craze today is four garages.

A real estate agent cites that today, people have a lot of items and log of gears thus the high demand for a place to store them. Equally, people build large garages because of street parking restrictions.

It is not surprising therefore to find some garages larger than a lot of apartments, accommodating more cars than ever. Where the children stay home longer, a third or probably fourth car is a necessity to such a family.

Bearing in mind that every single man has a passion for a specific 'toy' be it jet skis, boats, bikes, or motorcycles, workbenches and power tools, which they all need a safe storage. That's the reason why, if you take a closer look at a large garage, such as a three or four car garage, you will not miss tools, sporting gears, bikes, a 25-foot boat and a workshop among many other things. This sums it all up that the suburban landscape which has been visually degraded is a feature of materialism, not likely to disappear in the near future.

Nonetheless, this style is not a favorite to everyone as some residence builders invest more on architectural plans that can be able to split these huge areas into opposite sides of the dwelling. But the house's design is what causes the problem after the alterations. For instance, the most artistic ones are the back-loading garages, but their turning radius's will have to be the backyard space. Basically, side-loading garages can make the front of the home look huge, but they will require wider home sites.

Side-loading garages are not practicable in the long run in a lot of areas, especially due to the rising costs of land. With the notion that if a single garage is good, then even five garages are better, this will mean that people will only be knowing that a good garage is one whose size equals a basketball court.

The question everyone is asking is if and when the craze is going to stop. It would be wise if people would think first on the priorities in life, the basic and most important things, before having a house attached to a four car garage.
