There are several popular costume ideas for this year. Of course you can go out and buy everything all put together, but part of the fun around here is putting the costume together yourself. Putting your imagination to work can net you a great Halloween costume.
Variations of the Garbage Bag Costume - We have all seen this. That child that didn't have a costume so at the last minute pokes a hole for their heads and arms. They then stuff their bag and go as a number of things. A garbage bag or bags of leaves are variations of this theme. Let us consider other things to do with garbage bags.
A bunch of grapes could be a great idea. Take a black garbage bag with arm and head holds. Blow up a bunch of purple balloons. Tape these to the garbage bag. You can use red balloons or light green as well.
A pumpkin is very seasonal as well. Buy an orange garbage bag. With a black sharpie draw lines like a pumpkin down the sides. Again, make sure that you make the holes for your arms and head. Stuff with newspaper. You can use face paint to make your face green for a stalk and you have a pumpkin. Draw a face on your garbage bag and you have a jack-o-lantern.
A bag of jellybeans is a fun idea. For this, you will need a clear garbage bag and blown up balloons in multiple colors. This is the same as the ideas above; you just stuff the garbage bag with the balloons. An amusing idea.
A trash bag is a kind of neat idea. This time you want leg and arm holes. Pull the bag up to past your elbows to hold it on. Fill the bag with "trash". Empty boxes and empty recyclables would be good for this project. You can tape to the outside of the bag as well.
Another fun trash bag idea is not a costume but a Halloween decoration. Take two large black trash bags. Fill full of leaves or newspaper. One is the head so make it slightly smaller. Tie the two together. Take eight more bags. Twist them up like legs and wrap them with black tape. Tape them to the underside of the bag that is the body. Give your spider red eyes and white teeth. Painting can lids red and gluing them on for eyes is a good idea. You can cut white teeth from styrofoam plates. You know have a spider to decorate your Halloween yard.
Halloween is all about having fun. Dressing up is part of that fun. Use your imagination and even simple things, such as garbage bags, can become costumes.
A safety precaution should be mentioned here. Never have plastic bags around small children's head. Take every precaution to avoid suffocation.
