if we'd open up our eye,
that we have made a place
called Garbage City.
Huge piles of throw-a-ways,
cast off cans of yesterdays
in amongst them children play
in a place called Garbage City.
Children living in the streets
not enough for them to eat
picking up trash to sell for "meat"
in a place called Garbage City.
This place has taught a lot to me
not only about poverty and misery,
but about recycling things into beauty
like they do in a place called Garbage City.
If in the midst of poverty,
they can make beauty from recycling
for they have eyes to see,
how much more responsible we should be
to care for Mother Earth
than the place called Garbage City.

Yup, I'm the one that told Sally about this awesome poem and even allowed her to use my 'pute to find it!
My girlfriend told me about this poem. I'm going to use this to teach my 5th graders about the actual Garbage City in Cairo. Thanks for helping with my lesson plans.
